Music Class

Mock Trial

The mock trial class has been going even better than expected. Who is responsible for this horrible accident? The Martiz Driver? The taxi driver? Odeng Ajuma?? Great job everyone, I know this course is difficult, but I want you to use your English brains!

Job Prep I

Everyone has been working really hard to create great resumes! I'm really proud of all the students' effort. Students are have done a great job brainstorming ways to make their own skills and experiences really come alive. Keep up the great work guys!

Drama class.

This has been a great class to teach. It's a nice balance of improvisational activities for the first hour, followed by preparing for a mini-performance at the end of the four days. Unfortunately B class only had 2 days of drama due to the weather but even in that short time they did a good job with the improvisational activities we did in class.
C class was the first class to perform the short skit "Cinderella: Behind the Glass Slipper" and everyone did an amazing job! I think I perfectly cast Min-young and Kyu-sang as Cinderella and Prince Charming! I look forward to teaching D class and a class Drama. My expectations are high!

Gachon Global Leader English Immersion Camp

Gachon Global Leader English Immersion Camp Handbook

Gachon Global Leader English Immersion Camp was created to enhance Kyungwon students' English communication skills and to cultivate an environment that optimizes the utilization of English during the camp period.

Programs:

Core Classes -

Reading Comprehension: This course is designed to improve student skills in reading comprehension and vocabulary. These goals will be achieved through reading passages from the text and using the information presented to answer various questions regarding the material.

Listening Comprehension: This course is designed to teach a wide range of listening skills along with critical thinking. Students will explore new vocabulary and grammar important to developing their communicative ability. Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to use the language and concepts presented as well as to share their point of view.

English & Themes -

Mock Trial: The goal of this course is to achieve strategic objectives through focused public speaking in English. This will be accomplished through the context of an American legal trial. The students will have a chance to participate in team based competition using a fact pattern provided to them involving the death of a motorist. The groups will assign roles as attorneys and witnesses and will have to develop the questions to ask the opposing teams in order to elicit the answers that will help their case. This is an opportunity for role play, improvisation, and strategy.

Drama: This course will use improvisation which will give students the skills and confidence to be successful when communicating outside the classroom. They should practice taking risks in language, and improvisation is a great to do this, as students do not necessarily know what comes next. The scene is created as they go. Participants must pay attention to their partners in order to react appropriately. They must listen carefully, speak clearly, and use language in an authentic (i.e. unplanned) way. In addition, a prepared short play will be presented on the last day, so students can also have a more traditional sense of drama and know what it is like to perform in front of an audience.

Presentation: The aim of this class is to improve the students ability to present information orally in front of an audience. By the end of the course, students should be able to organize a basic presentation, utilize visual aids, understand the importance of body language, and build audience rapport. Students should actively participate in the preparation of each lesson's presentation topic, as well as contribute to the peer assessment process.

Travel: The objective of this class is to introduce students to different countries and cultures and to explore practical way to travel and plan a tip. Students will be required to create a mock travel adventure, including creating a travel brochure and researching a country of choice, planning a trip there, and presenting a role play from a scene on the trip to the class.

Music Appreciation: This course will be focused on learning terms to discuss music and styles, expressing opinions about music from different cultures and genres. Students will discuss music in terms of culture and musical terminology, and analyze four songs specifically in terms of vocabulary and content. Students will also be expected to prepare a short presentation on a new style of music and culture that they are not familiar with.

Movies & Culture: Students discuss cultural themes from selected countries, then watch movie clips which explore some themes. Minor tasks completed, related to the movie. Student pairs/teams will create a B4 poster including pictorial details of each specific culture and its activities presented in the movie and then present this information to the other students in the audience.

Job Preparation I: This course teaches you not just what a resume should look like, but what it should say. It walks you step-by-step through the creation of the most common sections found on resumes in today's job market. In addition to helping you determine what information should be included, it also goes a step further to help you realize what pitfalls to avoid when creating this powerful job search tool
